Whitbywriters.com is not a campaigning website. We stay focused – and the focus is on facts and fables to get our creative juices going. Our own, in the first instance, and (by extension) anyone like us. We are amateur writers trying to become professionals. Reprieve.org‘s current campaign ticks the boxes.

What you see above is the sort of prison camp in North Syria in which British citizens are being illegally detained, notably women and children. They were trafficked as teenagers by so-called “Islamic State” (IS). With the collapse of IS they have been illegally abandoned by their government. Reprieve.org is championing their cause.

Why I support Reprieve.org is because it’s one of the least hypocritical ways someone like me can tell a foreign government to have a care for its own citizens, to respect their basic human rights. Reprieve.org fights injustices like these by bringing cases in the courts of the country concerned. I am not telling the government of that country: Don’t do as I do – do as I tell you, but rather: Respect your own laws!

This all costs money. For the next 48 hours, if you donate to Reprieve.org it will be matched twice over by anonymous donors. Among all the Black Friday offers we’ve been afflicted with, this has to be one of the best deals you’ll get.

Got human rights already? Don’t need any more? Consider this…

If you ever lose them, you’ll only get them back if someone else fights for them on your behalf.

Now – stand that on its head.

And which is the rotten slimy callous pariah state treating its citizens so shamefully?
Go on, take a guess:

1. North Korea?
2. The former Soviet Union?
3. His Britannic Majesty’s Government??
