Further to our post on 1 December 2023 entitled: Reprieve.org appeals to us…

Here is a link to a YouTube video from Reprieve.org entitled: British families detained in North East Syria – everything you need to know in 90 seconds.

Main points:
(i) Only a handful of British families are involved. Along with 70,000 others they were swept up by Kurdish forces when they took territory formerly held by ISIS. They are British citizens, but the Government has chosen to abandon them.
(ii) Most of the women were actually trafficked there. None of them has been charged with a crime. They have no access to a lawyer. Their detention is unlawful.
(iii) The majority of the British detainees are children, mostly under 10 years old. They are being held in appalling conditions, with inadequate access to food, water, education and medical care. Boys are at risk of being torn from their families at age 13 (puberty) and sent to adult male prisons.

Britain must follow the example of Canada, the USA, Australia and France, and bring their citizens home.
