Why are more lions in Kenya getting kicked to death by buffaloes?
As explained in Science magazine: an invasive species of ant is displacing native species in the trees, which formerly deterred elephants from eating the leaves. As a result elephants are denuding five times as many trees, which leaves less cover for lions to hide behind when hunting zebra. So the lions are able to catch fewer zebra, and are reluctantly turning to buffalo.
And so an entire Kenyan ecosystem is collapsing like a house of cards.
