Papyrus (the writing surface) was manufactured in Egypt as long ago as the 4th millennium BCE.

It is still produced, mostly for the tourist trade, but the covid emergency has hit the trade badly and the skill is in danger of being lost completely. This video shows its manufacture from the papyrus plant.
