Air trapped in an Antarctic ice-core recorded the mass death of 56 million indigenous Americans from plagues, wars and genocide as Europe colonised the New World.

This caused the Little Ice Age of the 17 century as their farmland went back to forest, significantly depleting carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
