Jupiter’s moon Io must be the most volcanic body in the solar system – and it’s been seething and bubbling away for as long as Jupiter has existed: about 4.5 billion years.
Io boasts the most spectacular natural castle I’ve ever seen (pictured). And there’s also a lake of molten glass with shores of white hot lava, and an island in the middle.
For all its spectacular fairytale scenery I don’t imagine we’ll be going to Io anytime soon.
