Stonehenge has long been famous for its alignments on the (Summer and Winter) Solstice. But it also has features (the Station Stones, plus the 56 Aubrey Holes) with alignments to the Lunistice – an analogous celestial phenomenon based on the Moon instead of the Sun. In fact the lunar features may have come first.
How were these features used? English Heritage is conducting experiments to find out (the link giving the best layman’s explanation of the phenomenon). The experiments will commence this June 2024, and will go on until the next lunistice, which is due in 2025.
