Felis Catus (the domestic cat), an introduced species in Australia, threatens with extinction indigenous mammals such as bettongs, bandicoots and bilbies. Reserves have been set up, such as Arid Recovery, but cats get in – and thereby become liable to be hunted down and shot, or poisoned in an increasing number of ingenious ways, including via the notorious Felixer (see photo.)

Killing poor pussycat is as frowned upon Down-Under as it is Oop-‘Ere, but the stark choice is between wildlife and cats.
