A recent investigation of water-loss mechanisms on the planet Venus suggests it once had an ocean. This ocean disappeared more rapidly and recently than once supposed.

Today Venus serves us as an awful warning – a bad case of global warming due to carbon dioxide and sulphuric acid poured into the atmosphere (by volcanos), leading to surface temperatures of 500 °C – more than hot enough to melt lead.
