AI’s Energy Demands Are Out of Control, says WIRED.

The AI boom is powered by an unsustainable model. All current applications are implemented by an old-fashioned architecture: a remote in-out transaction with a monster data center using enormous and exploding amounts of energy.

Two leaders in generative AI: Microsoft and Google, have quietly ditched their carbon-neutrality and sustainability goal in their race to be tops in this brand-new technology. In particular, Microsoft’s published energy usage has risen annually by approx 5 GWh since 2021, the start of the boom.
