WWG extends a cordial welcome on the town’s behalf to Grosmont & Whitby Writers Group, run by author and illustrator Antony Wootten.

Antony’s group has been running in Grosmont for 10 years, and has now opened up in Whitby, where its inaugural meeting is at Flowergate Hall, Flowergate, Whitby on Monday night (tomorrow) at 7 PM to 9 PM, and every 2nd Monday thereafter. Admission: £1. Catering facilities on-site.

It’s good to have more than one writers’ group in Whitby which meet on different days of the week (see our FAQ page for all four besides ourselves). If you cannot get to one group because of a regular commitment then maybe another group will suit you. And with the forthcoming Whitby Lit Fest planned for 6-9 November 2025, the town is becoming better known as a national literary centre of excellence (not to say for its fish-and-ships and its goths!) – so 5 writers’ groups is scarcely too many to have.

If you can get to a meeting, come along and say hi. You might see some people you recognise.

From Antony’s website:

Flowergate Hall is down the alley shown in the image below, next to the United Reform Church on Flowergate. The alley is on the left of the church, if you are standing on Flowergate facing the church. It is not the building on the right hand side of the church. That’s the Church House Centre. Don’t make the mistake I made of going there thinking it must be Flowergate Hall!
