Topic: Play reading: Facing The Waves

Ian welcomed our visitors: Antony Bellekom, of Dogwood Theatre Productions, and his daughter Robbie.
Antony then talked about his BBC experience as the producer of The Archers, the genesis of Dogwood and the play Facing The Waves which they are currently developing.
Adele took over the Chair, scripts were handed out, and the play reading commenced, with Antony, Robbie, Gill, Harry, Kaz and Michele voicing parts. The play is in two parts, of which there was only time for Part 1.
Facing The Waves follows the careers of two crew members of the Whitby lifeboat: lifeboatman Henry Freeman (1835-1904) the coxwain photographed by Sutcliffe, and Faith, an ordinary crew member and mother of two. The action takes place in Whitby, switching between the present day (for Faith) and the days of Henry Freeman. It consists of dialogue, monologues and pre-recorded songs.
A lively conversation ensued on the completion of the play reading, Antony having invited those present to offer feedback on the script and suggestions concerning its production.
The meeting closed at 1:00 PM.
