From Jenny Hill …

The final Concert in this year’s Lunchtime Concert series at St John’s, Whitby takes place on Friday 4 September, where we welcome Fylingdales Folk Choir.

This 30-strong A Capella choir, formed in 2018 by Becca Robinson from Robin Hood’s Bay, is rapidly gaining a reputation for the warmth and vibrancy of its singing. They sing traditional and contemporary folk, plus a bit of blues, gospel and some original numbers, arranged for them by their musical director, Gillian Edwards, and all sung in glorious 4-part harmony!

They’ve entertained the crowds at Robin Hood’s Bay Folk Festival, the Victorian Weekend, Scarborough Big Ideas Festival and Staithes Festival of the Arts. At Whitby Musicport they created a collaborative work with the Manchester band Harp & a Monkey – they’ll be performing again with them at Pickering Theatre in the near future. 

Their Christmas concerts are always popular, featuring lively folk carols from past times – they are regularly invited to sing our seasonal songs at Nunnington Hall for the National Trust. 

They’ve sung in bandstands and breweries, and on the top deck of a boat in Scarborough harbour… but wherever they sing, their songs are guaranteed to lift the spirits! Visit their Facebook page FylingdalesFolkChoirWhitby to hear them.
