Whitby Writers Group

a self-help writers co-operative

Adele Duffield

Adele Duffield, writing as Della Duffy, has lived on the coast and moors around the Whitby area all her life and started a career in Estate Agency and Property Management after leaving Newcastle Polytechnic (now Northumbria University). She moved from private practice to corporate, and back again, over a period of 25 years, co-owning two successful businesses before returning to education to complete an Honours degree in English Literature & Culture (2008-11), having always loved reading and language.

Working in Higher Education helping students succeed with their skills and opportunities for several years kept her in an environment of lifelong learning and books, before the campus closure provided the opportunity to complete a Masters in Creative Writing in 2018. This provided a platform for writing and she has since written a full-length play entitled ‘Sex, Lies and Baking Cakes’, and also loves writing poetry. Her love of gardening and the beauty of the surrounding countryside finds its way into her work, which covers social class, love, loss and humanity.

While still waiting to be published, she enjoys the opportunity to present her work at the Whitby Writers Group, and also performs her poetry at ‘Diverse’ poetry meetings in Saltburn-by-the-Sea. She currently works part-time as an Outreach Librarian encouraging children and different sectors of society to engage with reading.
