Mikao Usui exhorted his pupils to make these five resolutions daily.
Just for today – I will not be angry.
If I’d smashed up my house and not my soul,
I could have bought some glue and mended it.
Just for today – I will not worry.
The things I’ve fretted over all week
have not happened.
Just for today – I will work honestly.
If nobody’s noticed what I’ve skimped,
they are the poorer for it.
Just for today – I will acknowledge my many blessings.
To dwell on all the things I haven’t got
is to waste myself on what isn’t there.
Just for today – I will honour my seniors, my neighbours and all living things.
What matters if they don’t deserve it?
