Received from Jenny Hill, 23/7/2018, and recommended to all WWG members…
During the month of August, St John the Evangelist church in Brunswick Street, Whitby (on the corner with Baxtergate), is delighted to be hosting lunchtime concerts for the third year running. The first, on Friday 3rd August 2018, will be traditional British Folk by Jenny Hill (voice) and Nick Thompson (fiddle). On 10th, Zena Bentley (violin) and David Bentley (keyboards) will present a ‘fiddle fantasy’ of Czardas and other violin favourites. Friday 17th’s recital will be given by the resident organist, Michael Ash. There will be no concert the following Friday (24th) as it is Folk Week in Whitby. The final concert rounding off the series will be Friday August 31st, when Simon Nisbett (lute) will play solos from the glories of the Tudor lute repertoire.
There is something for everyone in these concerts, which begin each week at 11.45 am, and last for around fifty minutes. St John’s is conveniently placed in the town centre, and has a great acoustic for music. There are no tickets for the concerts, but we welcome donations towards church funds and performers’ expenses.
