From Jenny Hill …

Dear Friends,

The first of St John’s 2026 Lunchtime Concerts takes place on Friday 7th August, entitled ‘Beauties of the Baroque,’ with Michael Ash, Organ & Jenny Hill, Soprano.

The programme is a delightful mixture of the familiar and the less well-known. The concert begins with a zesty aria by Vivaldi, moves to a more serious mood with Purcell’s wonderful ‘Dido’s Lament’, a sublime piece by Bach, ending with two great celebrations of the arrival of Spring by Handel and Perti. All of which is punctuated by Organ solos featuring Bach and his predecessor Buxtehude on the sweet-toned organ of St John’s.

Each Concert begins at 11.45 in St John’s, Brunswick Street, Whitby.

Entry is free, and there will be a retiring collection, divided this year between St John’s and the Nicaragua Earthquake Disaster Fund.
