Matters Arising

Ian welcomed members back again after the WWG August recess.

Significant time was spent discussing plans for the forthcoming Mad Hatter’s Tea Party on 11 September. The organising committee ( AdelePip, Ian) had met at La Rosa Hotel two days earlier and drawn up a list of what was needed and what would be available.

Members’ Readings

Mike — read a poem: Aysgarth Falls, about the eponymous scenic location in the Yorkshire Dales.

Ian — read a passage from his totally unpublishable novel: Who Knackered Aragorn’s Catamite? In the light of a stern warning from Tolkien’s present-day publisher HarperCollins this will only ever be available in book form as 100 hand-numbered paperbacks. Two copies will be offered for sale at the Tea Party in aid of charity.

Set in Minas Tirith, Minas Ithil and the Royal Mandate Of East Ithilien (the former Mordor) nearly 50 years after the Ringwars, Goswedriol (Goss), the bastard son of Gandalf, teams up with Goldberry to investigate the frightful murder of Morfindel, the King’s Favourite and arch wheeler-dealer. The duo have arrived in Udûn en-route for Hotel Doom, where Goss plans to sell a fake copy of the ring of power from the hand of the High Nazgûl to a notorious gangster.

Adele — read a nature poem enigmatically entitled Clocks – the “clocks” in question being dandelion seed heads.

With so few readers on this occasion, the meeting concluded at 12:25 PM.
